5. Conclusion
This article presents the technologies, knowledge and methods required to understand and design laminated composite structures. This field is marked by a constant evolution in technologies, materials and calculation methods that take damage into account and enable calculations up to failure.
Initially reserved for the aeronautics and space industries, concerns about structural performance and weight reduction have led to the widespread use of long-fiber composite structures in a wide range of fields: land and rail transport, shipbuilding, energy (wind power in particular). The future of composite structures lies in optimizing manufacturing costs by automating processes, developing multi-functional composite structures and introducing low-cost carbon fibers, while integrating the notion of recycling.
