7. Conclusion and outlook
Intense research into organic materials, and in particular the development of new functionalized polymers for optical and optoelectronic applications, has opened up decisive new perspectives. Indeed, the advances made over the last ten years no longer confine organic optical devices to materials ill-suited to industrial applications. More importantly, sufficiently significant breakthroughs have been made to revolutionize fields hitherto dominated by inorganics.
It is in the field of organic optoelectronics that the biggest upheavals are set to take place in the near future. The most striking example is that of displays, where the new OLED technology for screens will soon dominate the market. Similarly, in lighting, OLED plastic films have demonstrated their efficiency and are set to profoundly change the urban and domestic landscape.
