 INTRODUCTION

Multi-material injection molding enables parts made from several plastics to be produced in a single operation.

The constituent materials may be of different or identical natures and/or colors, and contain different additives or fillers.

The intended application will, however, limit the choice of polymer combinations, compatible (or compatibilizable), or on the contrary incompatible, in terms of rheology, shrinkage, adhesion and thermal properties.

In addition to the productivity gains linked to the minimization of manufacturing and handling operations, these technologies can be used to solve a variety of industrial problems (aesthetic, sensory, functional and/or economic) that are difficult to resolve with conventional injection molding.

The range of available processes includes multi-material injection molding, for the sequential or simultaneous production of different monolithic modules, and sandwich injection molding, for the manufacture of laminated parts.
