5.1 Which method to choose?

The two main methods of mesoscopic simulation were presented. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.

One of the problems with the MesoDyn method is that it is not suitable for describing branched polymers. Moreover, the DPD method preserves the hydrodynamics of the system, which represents an intrinsic advantage over the MesoDyn method.

The disadvantages of the DPD method are :

  • high and artificial compressibilities;

  • loss of topological constraints between chains ;

  • loss of chemical representation of the complex fluid.
