3.1 What we expect from a closing group
The clamping unit includes functions for opening and closing the mold, but also for locking the mold and ejecting parts.
In this section, we'll take a brief look at solutions for realizing the functions of the closing group.
Locking the mold: the mold is locked by a hydraulic or mechanical device, or a combination of the two. The actuator of the mechanical device can be hydraulic or electric. The locking force is exerted, on the one hand, on the platen carrying the movable part of the mold and, on the other hand, on a third platen, the machine frame, or directly on the tie-bars.
