4.1.1 Principle

ADE is the most widely used technique for characterizing the dielectric properties of polymers. It is the electrical equivalent of ADM. An alternating electric field is applied to the sample, and the measured current variations are used to determine the complex impedance, deduce the polarization variations, and thus the real (ε') and imaginary (ε'') components of the complex dielectric permittivity, as well as the dielectric dissipation factor (or tangent of the loss angle) tan δ = ε''/ε'....
