3.1 3D surface shaping with spontaneous curvature inspired by "kirigami".
Cutting patterns in film with spontaneous curvature and relaxation of elastic energy can be explored to form a multitude of 3D shapes. This process resembles the ancient Japanese art of cutting and folding paper, kirigami. Two examples of 2D patterns and their corresponding 3D shapes are shown in figure 2 .
