3. Equipment documentation

The documentation for a given piece of equipment, often referred to as the "machine file", provides, in a practical form and following a rational presentation, the information needed to understand the assembly of the equipment, its installation, operation and maintenance. This file makes it possible to quickly and precisely identify all components and spare parts. It should also make it possible to retrace the entire life of the equipment, from its commissioning in the company to its "departure" (scrapping, sale, etc.).

This is why the machine file generally comprises two essential but distinct parts, both in terms of treatment and structure. This breakdown into a technical file and a historical file is shown in figure 3...
