2. Preventive maintenance
As defined in the above-mentioned standard, preventive maintenance is "maintenance designed to assess and/or mitigate degradation and reduce the probability of failure of an asset". Based on this general definition, two variants can be distinguished:
systematic preventive maintenance ;
conditional preventive maintenance ;
predictive maintenance (a more advanced form of condition-based maintenance).
But before taking a closer look at predictive maintenance and the methods and tools used to implement it, let's take a closer look at the challenges of preventive maintenance in general.
