5. Predictive preventive maintenance
The last preventive maintenance method used, the ultimate stage of maintenance, is predictive maintenance (wrongly called predictive maintenance, because although we can sometimes foresee in maintenance, we can never predict!), which is carried out "by following forecasts extrapolated from the analysis and evaluation of significant parameters of the asset's degradation" (Standard NF EN 13306). Even more than for condition-based maintenance, it is necessary to master the technology and behavior of the asset concerned in its operating conditions before considering the application of such a maintenance strategy.
