2. Availability, definition test

Availability is defined as "the ability of a device, under the combined aspects of its reliability, maintainability and maintenance logistics, to perform or be in a condition to perform a function at a given time or within a given time interval" (cf. NF X 60-503).

This definition is very dense, with three parts that deserve separate comment.

2.1 "...under the combined aspects of its reliability, maintainability and maintenance logistics..."

This confirms that reliability should not be confused with availability, and that reliability is one of the three components of availability (figure 2 ).
