3. Inks

The aim of printing is to fix a decoration (a sign, a text, a logo, an image, etc.) on a support.

Printing inks are therefore necessarily composed of a colored material and a transit vehicle (the varnish), whose function is to deposit and fix this color on paper, aluminum, cardboard, plastic film...

Liquid or pasty preparations for marking, decorating and protection, inks are generally composed of four categories of substances:

  • colorants ;

  • binders ;

  • solvents ;

  • auxiliary agents.
