2. Traceability in 2020
In terms of traceability, the widespread use of unique identifiers on production items or batches, handling and packaging units now enables strict monitoring of work-in-process, "physical" traceability of inter/intrasite product flows, and quality control from receipt of raw materials to dispatch of finished products.
This type of traceability has repeatedly proved its worth during recall campaigns for products with health or safety implications, in the automotive or food industries for example.
