Annotation ; annotation
The task of assigning a label to each piece of data. For example, assigning the label "dog" or "cat" to a database of animal photographs. Or assigning the correct label between "last name", "first name", "address", "date" or "none" to each word in a document. A distinction is made between manual annotation, when this task is performed by a human, and automatic annotation, when this task is performed by a computer program.
Most of this glossary is based on LNE's IA certification standards, and is the fruit of a consensus between some fifteen representative players in the field ....
