 INTRODUCTION

The aim of this series of books is to provide a basic understanding of the design of industrial products, their industrialization, the management of manufacturing resources and their distribution to customers. It is aimed at designers, engineers from design and engineering firms, project managers, industrial and operations managers, technicians involved in the manufacturing process, including engineers from methods, maintenance and general resources departments, and all those responsible for logistics in the broadest sense. It is also intended for students at engineering schools and all those interested in industrial enterprise.

These volumes are intended to be pragmatic, providing solutions to the problems encountered by the above-mentioned professionals in the performance of their duties. In an ever-changing world, this collection also seeks to enlighten the reader on current management concepts and provide ideas for improvement.

The main topics covered are

  • company management ;

  • product design ;

  • industrialization ;

  • production methods ;

  • flow management ;

  • packing and packaging ;

  • storage and handling ;

  • transport ;

in other words, all the way to the customer.

Note :

The United States has had a profound impact on the industrial world in recent decades, and will continue to do so well into the 21st century. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to give the universally-used American terminology in brackets from time to time... even though translations have often altered the original meaning, sometimes leading to confusion.
