ABSTRACT

The QUICK GPS method enables a designer to carry out the ISO functional dimensioning of an isolated part, knowing its mechanism. The method is in four steps: analysis of the setting up of the parts, tolerancing of the interfaces, general tolerancing and looking for the influence of positional deviations of interfaces to identify failures and links between interfaces. This method is operational for engineers, giving them full control of the product. It is very efficient, in both training and execution. It standardizes the tolerancing of the company, capitalizes the choices made and facilitates trading between the different project partners. It can be applied as early as the preliminary design sketches of future parts.

 INTRODUCTION

Functional dimensioning aims to define functional definition drawings (parts in operation). A definition drawing is a contractual document between the customer and the supplier, describing the parts completely and unambiguously.

Functional specifications ensure :

  • the mountability of parts ;

  • interchangeability and independent manufacturing of parts;

  • the mechanism's operation and service life.

The aim of the method is to select specifications and allocate the greatest possible tolerances to limit manufacturing and inspection costs.

The language is defined by the ISO GPS (Geometrical Product Specification) concept dimensioning standards adopted by all general engineering and precision engineering companies, especially in the context of outsourced production. The main standards are ISO 1101 (2013), ISO 5459 (2011) and ISO 2692 (2014).

The QUICK GPS functional dimensioning method has been developed at ENS Cachan's Laboratoire universitaire de recherche en production automatisée since 1997. It is perfectly suited to exploiting the quotations generated, in the context of digital continuity .
