8. Cybersecurity and dependability
Industrial installations and cyber-physical systems can be subject to failures or operating errors that can lead to damaging operation or breakdown. The study of these risks is the subject of dependability (SDF), which is based on four components: reliability, maintainability, availability and safety . It can be seen as the ability of a system to perform its functions without posing a danger to users or the environment.
Risk is assessed by two components: the probability of a system remaining in good working order, and the severity of the impact in the event of malfunction.
