 INTRODUCTION

Auxiliary vehicle-loading cranes are medium-duty cranes, since they load or unload their carrier vehicle or trailer; they must therefore have a limited weight, so as to leave a substantial payload for the convoy of which they are a part, and the power to enable loading (or unloading) operations of the masses (divisible or not) that the vehicle carries. This clearly differentiates them from large self-propelled cranes known as mobile cranes, which are not essentially designed and assembled for a specific type of transport, but rather for high handling performance (capable of lifting 20 t at 3 m, and even much more).

What's more, large mobile cranes are usually mounted on a special carrier vehicle and always form a single unit. Auxiliary loading cranes, on the other hand, often use two carrier vehicles in their lifetime, and have their own value independent of the carrier. And while mobile cranes are generally equipped with telescopic jibs, auxiliary cranes are mostly articulated.

Last but not least, auxiliary cranes are generally more powerful than small jib cranes operated by hand or with the aid of an electric pump connected to the batteries (in this case, the operating time is severely limited by the need to recharge the batteries: on a truck, they are recharged while driving). Auxiliary cranes are not really considered to be those whose lifting force does not reach 1 t at 2 m, or whose jib is less than 3 m long.
