2. Distribution resource planning: DRP

As we have seen, information management must contribute to the speed of order processing and store replenishment, and to the reliability of service and flow monitoring. DRP (Distribution Resources Planning) is the system that contributes to this. It is the downstream external logistics system (physical distribution system). Its aim is to maintain all stocks throughout the distribution system at the level strictly necessary. To achieve this, it relies on inventories on file in the various warehouses and storage locations throughout the company, as well as on consumption forecasts. This leads to significant economies of scale in fixed assets at global level.
