Stock replenishment
The first empirical method of stock-keeping, this technique is based on observation of the local grocery store, and consists in restoring a previously established stock level. A periodic review enables us to see at first hand that certain products have been consumed, and that they need to be replaced by issuing an order or a production order. When talking about stock "management", this rudimentary technique is soon criticized for not taking into account foreseeable consumption trends, and for not adapting the level of available stock to variations in demand.
