2. Meaning of the term "traceability

Definition

ISO defines traceability as "the property of a measurement result or standard such that it can be related to specified references, usually national or international standards, through an unbroken chain of comparisons all having specified uncertainties" .

The unbroken chain of comparisons is also referred to as the "standards connection chain" or "calibration chain".

It should be noted that the traceability of a measurement result must be demonstrated, while the uncertainty must be calculated....
