4. Physicochemical characterization
Once high-entropy alloys have been prepared, a number of physicochemical properties are sought: crystalline structure, microstructure and chemical homogeneity.
4.1 Structural analysis
The most widely used technique for structural characterization of crystalline materials in the laboratory is X-ray diffraction (XRD). It can be used to identify the presence of different phases within a material, usually polycrystalline, and to resolve the crystal structure, i.e. the periodic arrangement of atoms in a crystal.
