3. ERMESS: a tool to help design micro-networks
The TwInSolar research project is led by the PIMENT laboratory at the University of La Réunion. Within this project, a specific component focuses on the optimal design of microgrids, and an algorithmic tool called ERMESS (EvolutionnaRy Microgrid Energy Systems Sizing) is the fruit of this research work.
The aim of ERMESS is to provide decision support to microgrid designers in their choice of energy system architecture, component sizing and management strategy. It takes into account existing energy systems, the technical and economic characteristics of equipment that can be added, as well as the microgrid user's objectives in terms of self-sufficiency, autonomy, environmental impact and economic profitability, and offers a personalized recommendation.
