The advantages of electrochemical treatments, including the absence of chemical products and secondary waste, and their operation at ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure, make them ideal for water treatment, both for organic load reduction and disinfection.

4.1 Organic load reduction

Since the advent of electrodes that generate hydroxyl radicals, such as BDD electrodes, the range of applications for electro-oxidation has expanded, and performance in terms of organic load removal has improved.
