2. Application to selected industries

It is impossible to draw up an exhaustive list of all the uses to which water can be put in a plant; at most, we can try to group them into the following main categories:

  • unique (bottled water), essential (beverages, dialysis, injectable preparations) or important (many food products) component of the finished product;

  • essential manufacturing agent (e.g. paper mills, textile and dyeing industries, pharmaceuticals, chemicals [23] , etc.);

  • washing of products and equipment (e.g. food industry), rinsing of finished products (e.g. electronics industry);

  • boiler feed and heat transport (discussed in another article);

  • transport of materials or waste...
