2.1 Definition of impact and specificity of RUTP impacts

The impact of a discharge on an aquatic environment can be defined as all the consequences that this discharge may have on the state, functioning or evolution of this environment. The resulting modifications to the environment are most generally perceived as a deterioration in its quality, even if this judgment is sometimes relative and subjective.

On a practical level, there are two different perceptions of the modification of the quality of aquatic environments and therefore of the impacts of discharges:
