The International Network of Basin Organizations was originally created at their constitutive meeting in Aix-les-Bains (France) in 1994, between organizations pursuing the same goal of setting up integrated water resource management at basin level, on the basis of voluntary participation in a charter adopted at their assembly in Morelia (Mexico) in 1996 and confirmed at subsequent assemblies in Valencia (Spain) in 1997 and Salvador (Brazil) in 1998 (source: http://www.riob.org ).
