
3. Hormones' modes of action on the cell
Hormones bind to two types of cell receptors: membrane receptors and nuclear receptors.
3.1 Membrane receptors (MR)
Membrane receptors bind with proteins and amino hormones to activate a second enzymatic messenger system, which releases energy from the ATP required to operate a cellular mechanism (figure 1 ).
