8.1 Introduction
Ozone is the most powerful oxidant available for water treatment, and has long been considered the best disinfectant.
Figure 18 shows the relative positions of various oxidizing/reducing pairs; thanks to its high oxidation potential, we quickly discovered the many facets of this reagent, which enables :
improve the coagulation of certain waters;
oxidize dissolved salts (Fe-Mn);
aerate the water ;
eliminate molecules that generate color and taste/odors;
