4. Bioindication
A bioindicator is an organism or group of organisms which, by reference to biochemical, cytological, physiological, ethological or ecological variables, makes it possible to characterize the state and/or functioning of an ecosystem or ecocomplex in a practical and reliable way, and to identify natural or induced changes as early as possible. .
As such, soil organisms have been used for several decades to provide information on soil condition or potential soil effects. Today, thanks to recent advances in research, it's high time they became bioindicators of soil quality.
