4. Accommodating biodiversity in cemeteries
Cemeteries, like parks, squares and gardens, play a role in the urban green fabric. They form part of the network and contribute to the enrichment of urban biodiversity. That's why it's important to think about how to accommodate flora and fauna right from the design stage. Choosing local plant species and creating microhabitats for wildlife are all actions that promote biodiversity.
An initial diagnosis of biodiversity will identify any remarkable species in the cemetery and their potential. These inventories will enable us to target the most appropriate wildlife facilities to be installed. Annual monitoring of flora and fauna will help to demonstrate the effects of ecological management practices on biodiversity.
