    • their origin: since 1996, materials in the first category have been systematically withdrawn from the slaughterhouse. The list of SRMs, which is constantly evolving, has been proposed to the legislator since July 2001 by a college of 25 experts within the AFSSA (French Food Safety Agency), replacing the opinions previously issued by the Dormont Committee;

    • in terms of destination: category 1 materials are collected, transported and identified without delay and, unless otherwise stipulated, are incinerated directly in an approved plant or processed in an approved processing plant, then all resulting products are incinerated as waste in an approved incineration or co-incineration unit.
