6. Conclusions and outlook
Phytotechnologies have great potential for development on sites with little or no contamination, or as a complement to physico-chemical techniques. Soil refunctionalization is promoted by the mechanical action of roots on soil structure and rhizospheric activity, which activates soil microbiology. The main advantages of these techniques are their compatibility with the principles of sustainable development (e.g. minimal disturbance to the site, judicious use of natural resources), which means they are well received by the general public, the possibility of enhancing the value of the land (e.g. permanent landscaping), and in-situ soil management compared with techniques requiring excavation and transport. In addition, the addition of plant cover reduces erosion, dust, pollutant leaching and transfer to the water table. Adapted flora and fauna are maintained or restored, ensuring soil functionality....
