Methanization is based on the degradation of organic matter by micro-organisms operating in an anaerobic environment, leading to the formation of biogas and digestates. Biogas production sites can be distinguished according to the origin of the organic matter entering the digester: farms, agro-industrial activities (slaughterhouses, dairies, food processing industries, etc.), mechanical-biological treatment (MBT) units, non-hazardous waste storage facilities (ISDND) and sewage treatment plants (STEP) .
