This article explores and compares the phenomena of knowledge loss and obsolescence, highlighting their respective causes.
Knowledge obsolescence refers to the process by which knowledge loses its usefulness. It can occur for a variety of reasons, including technological advances, changing consumer needs, regulatory changes and evolving standards. In a corporate context, four main sources of knowledge obsolescence can be identified: innovation and R&D activities, market changes, organizational changes and regulatory changes.
On the other hand, knowledge loss occurs when knowledge is permanently lost, often due to factors inherent to an organization.
