These terms are often confused.

  • In addition to the definition proposed in paragraph 3.1 of the standard NF EN ISO 19011 2018 (see § 1.1), the standard NF EN ISO/IEC 17020 2012 proposes, in paragraph 4.4, the following definition of the term audit: "a systematic, independent and documented process for obtaining records, statements of fact or other relevant information, and evaluating them objectively to determine the extent to which specified requirements are met".
