5. Tools
Setting and implementing an environmental strategy calls for the mobilization of a range of instruments at different stages. Some are used at the start of the process to identify the company's environmental challenges and serve as decision-making tools, while others help implement the strategy or report on the results obtained.
The use of all available tools is not justified in all cases. Some companies will use only a few of them, while others will use many or all of them. The extent to which they are used depends as much on the company's determination as on its level of environmental criticality, its intrinsic characteristics and the environmental strategy it has adopted. The choice will therefore be made on a case-by-case basis according to the company's needs.
