7. Biogas composition, recovery and purification
As we saw earlier, anaerobic digestion essentially transforms degraded organic matter into an energetic gas called "biogas", made up of various gases resulting from biological reactions.
7.1 Biogas composition
The composition of the biogas produced varies in proportions that can be significant, and is linked to several factors that are not fully known. These include :
the nature of the effluent to be treated (proportion of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur and oxygen);
effluent pre-acidification rate at reactor inlet;
effluent TSS content;
and also the purification technology used.
