3. Thermal bridges
3.1 What you need to know
A thermal bridge is a physical phenomenon that reflects a lack of homogeneity in an area of a building. This defect may be due to the construction method or the materials used.
The consequence of a thermal bridge is a significant flow of heat (or heat loss) from the hottest to the coldest area, and at the same time a reduction in the surface temperature on the hottest side of the thermal bridge.
The most common example is the slab-balcony connection, which is usually a through-bond.
