3. Megadata storage and management
This section deals with the problem of storing very large volumes of data. We begin by pointing out the limitations of relational databases for storing and managing megadata, and discuss the contribution of cloud computing. We then highlight the benefits for data storage and management of the "MapReduce" parallel programming model and the free "Hadoop" framework that implements it. We then introduce the various NoSQL database models, which represent different solutions for storing megadata. Finally, we look at a few other alternatives, including NewSQL databases.
