4. The use of LCAs and the quality of eco-labels

4.1 Lessons learned

Six years' experience in eco-label criteria studies has led us to recognize that :

  • LCAs of products representative of the group, and the participation of the manufacturers of these products, make it possible to establish ecological criteria on an assured basis;

  • LCAs of products already on the market are not always possible for a variety of reasons: available resources, producer reluctance, lack of inventory data.

This often leads to the use of lighter methods. In all cases, we must not lose sight of the objectives of eco-labels, which are to (see introduction) :
