4. Conclusion: From engineering sciences to citizen sciences
In the scientific and professional vision of metrology, respect for ethical criteria is present at every stage: from the production of results, the verification or certification of the result, to the decision (made on the basis of the result). For the latter, analysis of the need is crucial, but it is necessary to distinguish between what is the metrologist's responsibility (to provide trustworthy results) and what is not. If the metrologist needs to know what is to be done with the expected results (which determines the dimensions of actions and conditions postures), does metrology have a vocation to take part in social advocacy? Quantification as an activity The "socially and cognitively creative" approach not only records the world, but also produces, transforms and reconfigures it through its argumentative uses.
