2. Conclusion
At present, industry tends to use biomimetics as a purveyor of disruptive innovation. Whether or not this is its unique vocation, only the democratization of this type of approach within industry will be able to provide us with an answer. Biomimetics, in its essence, is capable of offering more than "simple" breakthrough innovation. It reaches its full potential when coupled with biomimicry. Nature undeniably possesses resource optimization strategies that are unmatched by our current technologies, however modern they may be. So, while biomimetics is already relevant in its own right, it is when it aims to deliver sustainable innovations that it reaches its full potential. It then becomes an extremely effective tool for innovation, coupled with a means of questioning, in a relevant way, our needs and the way we design to meet them.
