2. Location of indoor sound sources

2.1 Spatial impression

In a room, localization based on free-field cues can also be used, provided that the signal reaching the ear contains a minimum proportion of direct field.

In addition to free-field indices, there are several phenomena induced by obstacles linked to the structure and shape of the room.

We can divide the clues relating to the presence of the room into two categories:

  • those that create a sense of space;

  • those that define the apparent positions of the sources.
