6. Glossary of acronyms
Boundary Element Method (BEM)
This method is based on the same discretization principle as the finite element method. BEM is based on the theory of integral equations, but differs in that it reduces the problem to the boundaries of the domain under study. This method is therefore better suited to problems involving propagation in an infinite medium, since the mesh is only on the surface. It is widely used in acoustics and electromagnetics.
Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS)
A flow simulation method that involves solving the conservation equations describing turbulent fluid flow using a numerical method.
