5. Conclusion

There are three main reasons for the apparent complexity of building acoustic regulations:

  • regulations impose obligations to achieve results. However, each acoustic performance depends on numerous factors that must be mastered. Only some of these can be neutralized by standardization of the quantities representing performance.

  • the obligation to use the vocabulary and criteria established at European level has overturned the habits acquired over thirty years of previous experience.

  • In acoustics, we claim to be able to measure performance once construction of the building is complete. However, measurement takes into account all performance factors, those that have been mastered and those that have been forgotten or neglected.
