4. And after 2020?
For several years now, the European Commission has been preparing a new research framework program, Horizon Europe, for the years 2021 to 2027. Numerous discussions between EURAMET and the EC, an evaluation of the EMPIR program and public consultations have led the EC to propose a new metrology research program, again under Article 185, for a joint vote by the European Council and Parliament. The vote is likely to take place in May 2021.
Among other things, Horizon Europe has defined various public-public partnerships within the framework of clusters or grouped themes. Metrology is part of the digitalization, industry and space cluster.
The European Commission hoped that this program would demonstrate even greater cohesion and cooperation between metrology laboratories and academics, as well as progress in the strategic definition of objectives...
