4. Conclusion

In this article, we've looked at the various measurement techniques that can be applied to solid dielectrics and examples of their results.

These results show that the assumptions made in the 70's have been confirmed, namely that it was necessary to find ways of measuring charged defects (space charges) in order to understand the properties and performance of these materials.

The measurement techniques found and developed in the 80s and 90s made it possible to envisage their industrial applications from the 2000s onwards, and thus the development of materials and components that would have been difficult to envisage in the past. Today, thanks to these studies, extruded transmission cables with very high DC voltages (300-400 kV) are available for underground or submarine links between countries with projects of up to 800 kV.
