4. Activity measurement with standard

The activity of the source to be measuredA , expressed in becquerels (Bq), is equal to the count rate delivered by the measuring device N divided by the detection efficiency R :

As detection efficiencies are generally less than unity, and vary according to measurement conditions, liquid scintillation is the most frequently used measurement method, and is relative to a standard source of the same radionuclide.
