2. Polymer introduction techniques

As we have already stated, the crucial problem for the analysis and characterization of polymers by mass spectrometry is their introduction into the spectrometer in a way that is representative of their structure. The high molar masses, low volatility and very often insolubility of polymers make them unsuitable for direct analysis by GC/MS.

In these analyses, we must always bear in mind the problems associated with interfacing between the chromatograph and the mass spectrometer, which must transmit all the compounds to be analyzed in full and quantitatively .
